Regarding tobacco control in Punjab was held on 12th August 2025 under the chairmanship of Director General Health Services Punjab Dr. Khalil Ahmad Sikhani.
Representatives from various departments including NTCC Islamabad, Higher Education, School Education, Police, Excise & Taxation, Transport, WHO and Punjab Food Authority attended the said meeting.
Tobacco use remains one of the most pressing public health challenges of our time, claiming thousands of lives each year and placing a tremendous burden on families, communities, and our health system. Protecting the people of Punjab—especially our children and youth—from the harmful effects of tobacco is not only a legal obligation but a moral responsibility.
The Provincial Tobacco Control Cell, Punjab, has been established to lead coordinated, evidence-based, and sustained efforts to reduce tobacco use and promote a healthy, smoke-free environment across the province. Through strong enforcement of tobacco control laws, strategic partnerships, capacity building, and targeted communication campaigns, we are committed to ensuring that every citizen has the right to breathe clean air and live free from the dangers of tobacco exposure.
Our priority is to advance the vision of a Smoke-Free Punjab by strengthening implementation mechanisms, addressing emerging products such as e-cigarettes and nicotine delivery systems, countering tobacco industry interference, and empowering communities with knowledge and tools to make healthier choices.
I appreciate the dedication of our teams, government departments, health professionals, civil society partners, and development agencies working together to safeguard the health of our population. With collective commitment and sustained effort, we will create a healthier future for the people of Punjab.
A healthier, smoke-free Punjab where every individual—especially children and youth—is protected from the harms of tobacco through effective regulation, evidence-based policies, and sustained public awareness.
